Kathryn L. Reynolds, Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Katy has over 25 years of experience in investment banking, corporate strategy and operational executive management. Before founding The Vivelan Group, Katy has been a financial and strategic advisor to boutique investment banks and private equity firms as well as their clients and portfolio companies through her own firm Reynolds Wallbrink LLC since 2003. Prior to that, Katy spent over 13 years of her career working for Merrill Lynch in its international operations, initially in investment banking for eight years, and then global corporate strategy for five years.

Before leaving Merrill Lynch in 2002, she was Managing Director of International Private Wealth Services where she created, launched and led a worldwide network of private bankers focused on Merrill Lynch’s wealthiest clients outside the U.S., covering over $35 billion in assets under management. Previously, she was Director of Corporate Strategy for Merrill Lynch International where she helped execute and consolidate over 10 acquisitions, totaling over $11 billion and 8,000 new employees in over 70 countries. Katy’s first eight years at Merrill Lynch were in international investment banking covering Asia Pacific and Latin America. Throughout her career, Katy was identified as a leader and participated in many leadership forums within the company as well as Merrill Lynch’s first women’s leadership forum in 1999. Katy received her BA in Political Economies of Industrial Societies, at the University of California, Berkeley.

Petra Soderling, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Technology Officer

petrasoderling1Petra is a recognized visionary leader in the ICT industry. With close to 15 years in mobile technology, her work extends across cellular and IP network infrastructure, standardization and intellectual property protection, operating system, middleware, and application layer software development, research, design, and innovation. Between 2000 and 2012 Petra worked at Nokia in various senior positions, including Head of Marketing for Nokia Research Center, and Director, Head of Open Source.

She is the Founder and CEO of Mobile Brain Bank, a global crowdsourcing platform to discover unique teams of software engineers and computer scientists. She’s been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, CBS, GigaOM, TechCrunch, The Next Web, Huffington Post, The Hindu Times, etc. Petra holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Helia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, and an MBA from Aalto University in Helsinki, with credits from Harvard Business School and Stanford University. She’s received several innovation awards, including Red Dot’s Best of the Best in 2008.

Jeffrey J. Thomas, Director of Corporate Strategy

Jeffrey has over 15 years of legal, public administration, and community development experience, including public- and private- sector projects aimed at increasing community investment in environmental quality, sustainable public infrastructure, neighborhood-scale economic revitalization, renewable energy solutions, and public access and participation in governmental decision-making. Prior to working with The Vivelan Group, Jeffrey founded Thomas Strategies LLC, a strategic planning firm that facilitates public-private financing, policy, and partnership solutions to spur resilient community and economic development for which he remains a principal.

Previously, Jeffrey served as Special Assistant to the City of New Orleans Office of Recovery & Development Administration in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In this role, Jeffrey supervised policy development in furtherance of the City’s long-term disaster- recovery plan. In addition, Jeffrey is a practicing attorney with litigation, compliance counseling, and government relations experience related to environmental quality, brownfield redevelopment, construction, insurance, and disaster-recovery compensation for business, non-profit, and governmental clients. Before practicing law, Jeffrey served as a Washington, DC-based policy analyst and lobbyist, advising on legal reforms. Jeffrey holds a BS in Biology from Millersville University (PA) and a JD from Tulane Law School.
